Joy is something that I’ve seen and felt a lot of on this trip. I’ve felt joy from seeing it in others. It astounds me how joyful these people can be, not despite, but through their situations. And I know that isn’t coming from anywhere else but God, even if the people experiencing it don’t.
One moment of pure joy I felt was when I had my hands on this boy’s shoulders at the Cerebral-Palsy hospital. He took one of my hands, kissed it, and pressed it to his face for quite a while. It was so simple, yet so incredibly beautiful. The fact that he could have so much joy with a condition like that was so inspiring.
The other moment of joy I wanted to mention was when a group of our team went to one home to pray for the family that lived there. As we prayed for them, they were so joyful, that they spontaneously blessed us with prayer as well. I was so taken aback by that experience. How could a family with so little, bless us with so much?
Bringing someone joy is one of the greatest feelings there is.
I believe God calls us to that specifically because it is a very easy way to spread His love to people. As one of my teammates described it, it’s simple really. A smile and a hug is not that hard to do. But you’re still changing lives.
