in Las Capuchinas ruins

to live life as the Guatemalans do, how does someone do that?

visiting Antigua landmarks – like the ruins of a convent called Capuchinas that was ravaged by an earthquake in the 1700’s, is one of the things that the team has done and then walking up to the cross that overlooks Antigua.  The team has also found out what it is like to be in a long line in a local bank to cash dollars into quetzals, to walk through a noisy market to buy fruit and then to ride in a bus that was packed yet there was always room for one more person.   The team also were blessed with spending a morning at a hospital that cares for young children with cerebral palsy.

shortly before she was to leave the U.S. to join her team here in Guatemala,  Abigail posted on the team’s facebook page the following which sums up very well what the team will discover while living life with their Guatemalan hosts:

friend of mine went on the 11-month World Race and she gave me these thoughts as you are getting ready for the trip tomorrow.

“be open to new experiences and cultures. Remember to “Love Well Now”. Which to me just means to love people unconditionally no matter what their circumstances are. Have fun, be yourself. Don’t let the enemy put any fear in you. He doesn’t put us in a situation without us being equipped first. God is with us in the unknown. Trust Him. I pray for safe travels. Soak up every second of it because it goes so fast. I know you will be a blessing to people that you will meet, but sometimes when we think we’re going somewhere to touch others it’s usually us that re touched. Allow God to open your eyes and see the world through his eyes and ask him to give you his heart. So that you can have his compassion and love towards all those you will meet. Not just in your trip but in life in general. Sorry I wrote a lot lol. God bless”
