For me, one of the most impactful moments of the trip was during a VBS in a remote town hidden away in the mountains. Our team of 40 split into two groups. One group went off to paint the roof of a Church while the other half of the group hosted a VBS in a school yard.
Luckily, I was in the group that helped with the Children. I’m not that great with kids but I’m better with kids than painting!
I wasn’t really sure what to do with the kids so I was trying to remember what I loved doing when I was a kid.
Plane rides.
You know where lay on your back and you put your feet on their stomach and push them up into the air? At first they were so hesitant and scared. But once a few of them went and the other kids saw how much fun it was they were lining up for rides! It was the coolest thing to see their eyes change from hesitant fear to excited adrenaline- ready to go as soon as it was their turn.
They struggled trusting me, but once they saw I wouldn’t drop them- they began to trust me more and more. To the point where they would even let go and fly with one hand or no hands! It was incredible.
I saw so many things in those kids- fear, excitement, the thrill of something new and risky.. but more than anything, when I looked at them I saw God.
It still blows my mind!
